What is arbitration?

Arbitration is a private dispute resolution process in which the parties submit their dispute to one or more independent arbitrators, whose decision (the award) is binding. It offers expertise, confidentiality and procedural flexibility, and is widely used in commercial and cross-border matters.

Key features

  • Parties may choose arbitrators with relevant expertise and languages.
  • Proceedings are confidential and can be adapted to the case.
  • Awards are final and binding, subject to applicable law.

Starting an arbitration

An arbitration normally begins on the basis of an arbitration clause in a contract or a separate agreement to arbitrate. Contact the center to discuss your case, the applicable rules and the procedure.

The center’s arbitration rules, model clause and fee schedule will be published in the Documents section once formally adopted.
